Reducing Sexual Harassment at UVA

A Day of Discussion
Wednesday, October 10, 2018
9am to 5pm, Harrison Institute Auditorium

The 2018 National Academy of Sciences (NAS) report, Sexual Harassment of Women:  Climate, Culture, and Consequences in Academic Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (pdf copy available free of charge at http://nap.edu/24994) outlines the problem of sexual harassment in academia and provides 15 recommendations to reduce sexual harassment for faculty staff, and students in academic settings. On Oct. 10, we will hold a day-long series of events on this subject, with the primary focus of workshops on a prioritized set of the 15 recommendations. In addition to these workshops, we will have a panel with local experts. We have already confirmed as a keynote speaker one member of the NAS ad hoc committee that prepared the report. The UVa Day of Discussion will be addressed to colleagues across A&S and also Medicine. It is explicitly intended to focus on all forms of sexual harassment, e.g., harassment of men as well as of women.
