As of August 27, 2024 any student wishing to declare a WGS Minor must have completed one unspecified WGS courses with a grade of C of better.
STEPS TO DECLARE A MINOR
- Review the web listing of WGS courses.
- Obtain a current copy of your Academic Advising Transcript from the Student Information System (SIS).
- Obtain a copy of the Declaration of Minor form online.
- Complete the Minor Advising Worksheet.
- Review your completed forms with WGS Director of Undergraduate Programs, Bonnie Hagerman, during office hours or email to make an appointment.
Submit your major declaration using the Declare a Major or Minor form on the College website. Instructions for logging in and accessing the form can be found at the above link. Be sure to select the correct major so that we receive your declaration. Once you have submitted your declaration, you can expect an email response from us in 5 business days during the Fall/Spring semester and within 10 business days at any other time.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DECLARING A MINOR
As of August 27, 2024 any student wishing to declare a WGS Minor must have completed one unspecified WGS course with a grade of C of better.
The minor in Women, Gender & Sexuality (WGS) requires the completion of 6 courses (18 credits). One of these courses must have a global emphasis (see below for a list of courses that count as fulfilling this emphasis). The six courses must also include the following:
- WGS 2100 - Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies - Credits: 3
- WGS 3125 - Race & Power in Gender & Sexuality - Credits: 3
- One WGS course at the 3000-level or above
- One WGS course at the 4000-level (for which they must qualify by taking the second writing requirement, or the research and methods class)
- Two electives that are WGS courses, which may be at any level
A minimum grade of C must be earned in any course counted toward the minor.
The following courses count as fulfilling the global emphasis of the minor:
- WGS 3125: Transnational Feminism
- WGS 3220: Global Perspectives on Gender & Sport
- WGS 3230: Gender & the Olympic Games
- WGS 3900: Gender & Sexuality in Islamic Culture
- WGS 4730: Global Masculinities
- WGS 4840: Gender Politics in Africa
- WGS 4500: Black & Indigenous Fem Survival
