Claire Kaplan, Ph.D., who recently left her position at UVA’s Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center, continues as an adjunct faculty member at the University, as well as doing consulting work on gender-based violence issues, and engaging in social justice activism in the Charlottesville community. In addition to her course, Gender Violence & Social Justice, Claire taught Gender Violence Prevention on Campus, and the study-abroad class, Women in Central America: Local Activism in Global Context. A founding member of UVA’s LGBTQ Faculty and Staff group (UVA Pride) and the LGBTQ Center’s Advisory Board, she also served for many years on the LGBTQ Subcommittee of the Diversity Council, as well as on the Campus Task Force of Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance. She currently lives outside of Charlottesville with her wife, three cats and the occasional foster pup.
